Hey Cuba, Help Yourself, But Do It Over There

Condi to Preach from the Hypocratic Fence

As you should know, especially if you're reading my blog, Castro is dying. Fidel Castro, of Cuba. The country the United States has held an embargo against since February 7, 1962. Thus, we are partly responsible for the economic and social plight of this country. The Cuban people have very little money and very few rights, and have no recourse to get away from the government that Castro has set up. In an ideal world, the Cubans could make money and share it amongst the population, to serve their communistic ends. I don't think this is simply a case where the country makes money and holds it from the people for thier own benefit. Granted, Castro lives better than the rest of the population, but this sort of thing is to be expected. In reality there is just no money to be made because Cuba can hardly trade with any major economies.

We are the biggest proponent of keeping the embargo and thus, slashing their economic abilities as a tiny nation. The U.N. has voted to remove the embargo twice, but the U.S., our good buddy Israel, and the Marshall Islands (I bet because of political pressure), vetoed the proposals.

So here we are today, the Cuban leader is finally dying, but is going to hand over power to his brother, who is of course, more radical than his predecessor. As you should have read above, Condoleeza Rice is going to address the Cuban people via radio, and tell them to raise up and change their government. You know, do what we did to the English, do what the Baltics did to the USSR... stand up for your rights and save yourselves from your tyrannical and evil government.

Are we fucking serious? Do we really think that the broke ass people of Cuba, who have no weapons, no food, no energy to work hard, and let alone don't possess any civil rights, are going to make a surge against the oppressive government that they've been forced to live under for years? Sure, it sounds great, but it ain't gonna happen. The Cuban goverment and the Castros would execute everyone before they let that happen.

We're the big guy, who's realistically responsible for SOME of their plight, in the least, and we're telling the people that we've made more impoverished than they would be without our embargo to rise up and fight their government.

I would normally give Condi a lot of credit for being a diplomat, but whoever is the brainchild behind this idea should be ostracized. Hypocrites.

Then, on top of us making this bold and hypocritical statement, we tell them to "remain in Cuba" while they fight for democracy. I love this country, but we can sure be assholes sometimes.
